Powell River City | Camber College | Study English in Canada

Every year we welcome new students to beautiful Powell River, a place where students from around the world are choosing study abroad.

Powell River is a city that embraces diversity and welcomes people from all over the globe. Here you have the chance to join local sports teams, get involved with local organizations and volunteer. Here you really get the chance to be involved in the community so you do not feel like just a foreign student!

People here always give you a warm welcome, and they are open-minded and friendly when they discover you are a student of Camber College. They will help you integrate into the activities and lifestyle of this city, and you will have the opportunity to make some Canadian friends and learn new vocabulary.

Surrounded by nature, you can discover one of the most beautiful cities in Canada. The climate is warm in summer and mild in winter. You don't need to worry about your well-being here because Powell River is safe and free of traffic, pollution and excessive noise. In fact most people do not even lock their doors!

The City in History

In the early 1900s, the town was built around a pulp and paper mill. The City of Powell River includes the original Town-site, which became designated a National Historic District in 1995, one of only 7 in Canada. On October 15, 2005, coinciding with its 50th anniversary of incorporation, Powell River was officially designated a city.

Powell River is at the north end of British Columbia’s Sunshine Coast. It is home to about 13,000 people. From Vancouver, you need to take two ferries to get to Powell River.

British Columbia is on the west coast of Canada, between the Rocky Mountains and the Pacific Ocean. It has many mountains, rivers, lakes, and forests. Vancouver is the biggest city in British Columbia, and the third largest city in Canada. More than two million people live there, almost half of the population of the province. Victoria is the capital city of British Columbia. It is on Vancouver Island. About 350,000 people live in Victoria.
